Logos Free Book of the Month for the second half of January 2024 is Alister McGrath, The Spirit of Grace (Christian Belief for Everyone; SPCK, 2014). Using the Apostles’ Creed, McGrath explores topics including the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, the boundless grace of God, and the significance of the Christian community.
As usual, Logos has some great discounts on other resources on sale through January 31, including:
- New Testament Wisdom for Everyone, by N. T. Wright, only $1.99
- C. K. Barrett, New Testament Background, $3.99
- Biblical Hebrew for Beginners, only $5.99
- Richard Hooker on Anglican Faith and Worship: Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity: Book V, only $9.95
- C. K. Barrett, The Gospel According to St. John, $7.99
For the month of January, you can save up to 40% on Bible Exploration Kit. What’s a Bible Exploration Kit? These are curated collections of commentaries on each book of the Bible. They come in various sizes (small, medium, large) and use Dynamic Pricing, meaning Logos will not charge you for a book you already own. When you click through to see what is in the bundle, select “hide owned resources” to see what would be new to you in the bundle. These kits are convenient if you plan on studying or teaching through a particular book. Rather than buy a big commentary set and rarely (never) use Obadiah and Nahum volumes, the Expansion Kit gets you just commentaries on the books you want to study (even Obadiah and Nahum).
Logos also has a “flash sale” through January 19 on commentaries. There are some great deals on “mini-bundles” of the International Critical Commentary.
- Peter Leithart, BI110 How to Read the Bible (2-hour course), $19.99
- Mark Futato, OT391 The Shema (3-hour course), $29.99
- Darrell Bock, BI100 Learn to Study the Bible (4-hour course), $39.99
- Kenneth Walters, NT225 Survey of the Pastoral Epistles (5-hour course), $49.99
- Frank James, CH101 Introducing Church History I: Obscurity to Christendom (6-hour course), $59.99
- Eric Johnson, CO101 Introducing Pastoral Counseling I: Theory and Practice (7-hour course), $69.99
At least take advantage of the free course to see if Logos Mobile Ed is for you. These courses are high-quality lectures from well-respected scholars. It’s better than listening to that true-crime podcast while you exercise.
If you do not already own Logos, get Logos Fundamental ($49.99) or Basic (free) packages and take advantage of the free Logos Book of the Month promotion. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the free/cheap packages. All it takes is a Faithlife account, and you can read your books using the iOS or Android app, the Logos web app, or the (much more powerful) desktop version for both Windows and Mac. As always, Check out my first-look review of Logos 10.
